The Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Thursday, expressed shock over the killing of 16 Dambatta, Kano indigenes, by gunmen.

The victims were reportedly travelling from Abuja to Kano but were killed by the gunmen on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

Ganduje commiserated with bereaved families during his visit to Dambatta.

He said, "We are shocked, over the sad news of the shooting to death of 16 Dambatta indigenes by unidentified gunmen while travelling from Abuja to Kano, on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway. The news is not only shocking but devastating and frustrating."

"May Allah accept their gentle souls and punish the perpetrators of the dastardly act. There is nothing more shocking than the gruesome murder of these 16 persons."

In a press statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Abba Anwar, Ganduje urged the Kano people to pray for the repose of the soul of the victims; he also prayed that Allah would grant the bereaved family members the fortitude to bear the loss.
