A Magistrate Court sitting in Akure has ordered the remand of 13 persons for allegedly attacking the entourage of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The defendants were arrested for allegedly attacking the governor’s convoy in Idanre town, Idanre Local Government Area when Akeredolu visited the community to inaugurate some projects last week.

The defendants are, Akinola Segun, Akinmolayan Sunday, Dele Oni, Tommy Oluseyi, Akinbi Odunayo, Akinbadewa Michael, Ahmed Onabanjo and Akinduro Akinjo.

Others included Olowolowo Blessing, Godwin Sunday, Akintomide Adeleye, Ojo Temitope and Smart Babatunde

They were arraigned before the court on three-count charge of conspiracy, willful and unlawful damage of three vehicles in the governor’s convoy.

According to the police prosecutor, Mary Adebayo, the defendants conspired to attack the governor’s convoy and damaged three vehicles.

She said the offence committed contravened Sections 517, 451 and 249(D) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of the Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Adebayo urged the court to remand the defendants in prison to enable her to gather her witnesses for the trial.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The defence counsel, Mr Adeleye Akintububo, prayed the court to grant his clients’ bail in most liberal terms, promising that they would not jump bail, but produce substantial sureties.

The magistrate, Mrs Folashade Aduroja, declined the bail application and ordered the remand of the accused persons at the State Criminal Investigation Department for ruling on bail condition.

She adjourned the case till March 8, 2021.
