The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has defended the administration's economic policies, citing the political support of 33 state governors and insisting that food prices have dropped while foreign investments return to Nigeria.

Onanuga made the assertions in a statement posted on his official X handle on Friday, reacting to a broadcast clip featuring Obafemi George, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council's Media and Strategic Communications Committee.

Criticizing television anchors for echoing opposition narratives regarding the economy, the presidential aide accused media hosts of ignoring recent macroeconomic indicators and data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

"TV anchors keep pushing the opposition’s narrative that nothing has changed, positively, indeed, massively, since 2023. Their position has become so ridiculous that they keep parroting the old narrative, and now they question the NBS data on receding inflation. I will advise them to revisit the markets," Onanuga wrote.

Addressing staple food costs, Onanuga claimed that the price of a bag of rice had dropped significantly from approximately N120,000 to below N50,000, noting that it currently sells for N45,000 in his hometown.

The presidential aide further highlighted key financial indicators, including rising foreign reserves approaching $60 billion, improved foreign exchange availability for industrial raw material imports, and the restored usability of naira cards for international transactions.

Dismissing claims that returning foreign capital consists solely of short-term portfolio investments, Onanuga asserted that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is actively entering the real economy and generating employment.

"These facts are clear to anyone not blinded by partisanship and hatred for the leader who has laid a solid foundation for the economy and is poised to take the nation to a higher level of shared prosperity," he added.
