Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a blackout in five Northern Nigerian states, including part of the Niger Republic.
TCN disclosed this in a statement on Saturday by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah.
The Nigerian government agency said the outage is due to annual maintenance on its Mando–Kumbotso 330kV Transmission Line scheduled for Sunday, 31st May 2026.
Consequently, Kano Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to supply electricity to Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, Yobe, and parts of the Niger Republic.
“The outage is necessary to enable TCN’s maintenance crew to amend a damaged Red Phase Conductor on Tower T187 along the line route.
“Consequently, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) will be unable to off-take electricity to its customers across Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa States, as well as parts of Bauchi and Yobe States; customers in Gazaoua (Niger Republic) would also be affected by the outage,” TCN stated.
While TCN said the maintenance is expected to last between 9am and 4pm, it did not explicitly state when power would be restored to the affected areas
