The National Bureau of Statistics, in its latest Price Watch report, has disclosed a continued rise in the cost of refilling Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders, commonly known as cooking gas.
According to the bureau, the average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of LPG increased by 1.92% month-on-month to N8,323.95 in June 2025, up from N8,167.43 recorded in May 2025.
On a year-on-year basis, the price rose by 19.49% from N6,966.03 recorded in June 2024.

On state by state analysis showed that according to NBS, Delta recorded the highest average price at N9,243.38, followed by Cross River at N9,193.16 and Rivers at N9,188.51.
In contrast, Oyo recorded the lowest average price at N7,100.00, followed by Plateau and Yobe with N7,200.00 and N7,600.00, respectively.
Zonal analysis revealed that the South-South recorded the highest average retail price for a 5kg refill at N8,871.63, followed by the South-East at N8,649.55, while the South-West recorded the lowest at N7,960.42.

Similarly, the NBS revealed that the average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg LPG cylinder rose by 1.46% month-on-month to N21,010.56 in June 2025, up from N20,709.11 in May 2025.
Year-on-year, this represents a significant 33.52% increase from N15,736.27 recorded in June 2024.
In the 12.5kg category, Delta again recorded the highest average price at N23,108.44, followed by Cross River at N22,982.89 and Rivers at N22,971.27.
The lowest average price was recorded in Yobe at N19,000.00, followed by Niger and Jigawa with N19,242.48 and N20,025.94, respectively.
Across zones, the South-South posted the highest average retail price for a 12.5kg refill at N22,179.08, followed by the South-East at N21,623.86, while the South-West recorded the lowest at N20,402.42.
