The Director-General of the Standard Organization of Nigerian (SON) Mallam Farouk Salim has threatened crackdown on local manufacturers and importers of substandard or adulterated products in the country.

Salim reiterated the commitment of the agency to rid-off the Nigerian market of undesirable products, saying that usage of fake or low quality products portend high negative health implications.

The DG spoke in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital on Wednesday during the SON’s presentation of certificate of Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme to Bamiluc Global Resources Limited, the manufacturer of Bride Table water.

He said the agency in its commitment to improve life through standardization and quality assurance of products would not spare any efforts at sanitising Nigeria markets, urging local producers of fake products to have a change of heart or be dealt with according to the provision of the law.

Salim, represented by Head of Ekiti state Office, Mr. Ayeni Oyebola warned that any fake products’ producers or importer caught would be made to regret her action through confiscation, outright closure and blacklisting of erring manufacturing company.

Salim noted that the company with the MANCAP’s certification has set the pace in Nigeria’s water bottling industry and can now compete favourably with other competitors in the global market, urging all manufacturers in Nigeria to emulate Bamiluc.

“It is hoped that companies like yours will continue to set the pace in the water bottling industry. And it’s our desire that this award will be a stepping stone for your company and serve the impetus you need to acquire global relevance.”
