The Central Bank of Nigeria has assured Nigerians that it will remain operational while Coronavirus (COVID-19) lasts.

It made this announcement in a statement signed by its Director of Corporate Communication, Issac Okorafor.

To stem the tide, it promised to ensure that the Bank’s operations remain largely undisrupted and asked Deposit Money Banks and other financial institutions to do the same.

The Apex bank noted that the welfare of its staff is high priority and from Wednesday, March 25, 2020, till further notice, only essential staff of the CBN and the 37 bank branches will be expected to continue working.

It also directed its staff to observe stipulated guidelines by the Federal Ministry of Health, National Centre for Disease Control and relevant health agencies.

"For the avoidance of doubt, the CBN, in line with its mandate of ensuring monetary and price stability, will remain open for business during these trying times," its statement read in part.
