Why we charge air fares in dollars - Air Peace

Nigerian commercial airline, Air Peace, has given a reason why its website shows dollars as charges for air fares in the country, despite Nigeria's move to end dollar dependency.

According to the airline, dollar charges are applied only when a potential customer books a flight from outside Nigeria.

Air Peace said its website has a geolocator that recognises when a potential customer accesses it from outside Nigeria, which explains the charges in hard currency.

The airline gave the explanation after a social media user, @BryteDude, asked, "Please, without any suspicion of insanity somewhere on their part, why is @flyairpeace displaying airfares, most especially for domestic routes in USD? How is that normal and acceptable?"

In response, the airline said, "Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for contacting Air Peace. Please note that our website includes a geolocator that tracks airfares based on your location and the current foreign exchange rate. If you are seeing prices displayed in USD, it may indicate that you are not currently in Nigeria, and we do not have the foreign exchange value available for your location. In this case, the fare displayed reflects the equivalent global fare in dollars.

"If you are in Nigeria and are still seeing a fare in USD, we recommend refreshing your browser and ensuring that you are not using a VPN. Once you make your reservation, please proceed to the payment option, and this issue should be resolved immediately. Thank you for choosing Air Peace."
