'When there's no light' - Reactions as DisCo tells Jos customers to not pay for transformer repairs

The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) has urged customers in Gombe State not to pay anyone to fix faulty electricity transformers in their communities.

Musa Abdullahi, the Chief Security Officer of JED, on Monday, March 4, 2024 informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe that it was not the duty of customers to fix malfunctioning transformers.

According to Musa Abdullahi, when a transformer is faulty, people ought to report it to the closest JED office and they shouldn't pay any of its employees to fix it.

Musa Abdullahi said it was improper, dishonest, and inappropriate for community members to be asked to pay for the replacement or repair of faulty transformers.

He said: "“We don’t collect money from communities to fix transformers so no one is expected to pay.

“For any staff to go to communities collecting N5000, N3000 or any amount per household or street is fraudulent and we frown at such.

“If you have a challenge and cannot wait for your transformers to be fixed, you write to the Managing Director through the Regional Manager that you want to support the company willingly.

“Whoever asks you for money, escalate the issue to the regional manager and we will make an example of them”.
