Following Aliko Dangote's announcement of launching a sugar refinery in Ghana, some Ghanaians have shown disinterest in Dangote's move, as they question the fate of the Komenda Sugar Factory, which has struggled to become fully operational.

The founder and CEO of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, on Sunday, 4 May 2025, announced on his LinkedIn page the launch of the Dangote sugar processing factory in the Bono Region, Ghana.

The Dangote Group's plan to establish a sugar factory in Ghana aligns with the country's "One District, One Factory" initiative and aims to reduce Ghana's annual 162 million sugar import bill.

Despite the economic impact this initiative set have, some Ghanaians have reacted differently to the new development. Some believe it will create employment opportunities for the youth and while others questioned the fate of their struggling local factories.
