United Bank for Africa Plc has made four changes to its board.

The lender appointed Oliver Alawuba as CEO, UBA Africa; Abdoul-Aziz Dia as ED Treasury and International Banking; Chukwuma Nweke, ED, Retail and Payments; and Chiugo Ndubisi, ED & Group Chief Operating Officer.

This was contained in a statement issued by the bank to the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

According to the statement, Alawuba will be succeeding Victor Osadolor, who retired from the Group Board, after 9 years working at the Bank and implementing cutting edge products including the first ever banking chat Bot in Africa.

Abdoul-Aziz Dia, the first non-Nigerian Group Executive Director of the Bank, is expected to be responsible for UBA’s global network of operations in New York, London and Paris while overseeing sophisticated products introduced by the bank.

Nweke, on the other hand is expected to implement the retail offering aspect of the UBA's services.

Chiugo Ndubuisi's appointment as Group Executive Director and the Group Chief Operating Officer, is still subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria. His wealth of experience is what the bank is looking to latch onto.

Group Chairman Tony Elumelu said, “These appointments emphasize the Group’s commitment to our pan-African and global network, our huge retail client base and our operational infrastructure. We are focused on improving our efficiency and further strengthening our pan-African mission, using the extraordinary pool of talent and experience available in the Group.”

He also thanked all outgoing members of the Board and wished them success in their endeavors.

UBA allegedly sacked tons of staff numbering over 3,000 and promoted over 5,000 employees. It prides itself as the largest employer in the Nigerian banking sector, with a staff strength of close to 20,000 employees group wide.
