Former senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has reacted to a statement made by ex-president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GEJ, concerning his absence from partisan politics.

MyNigeria.com reported that Jonathan while speaking in Bayelsa State, said that he reduced his participation in partisan politics so that he can have time for other areas in need of his services.

He said, “Don’t be discouraged if you do not see me in most party activities in the state. I decided to appear in this event so that I will not be misunderstood.

“I’m shifting away from being an effective partisan politician because of my foundation. People who want to partner me felt that if you are a partisan leader in the country, they will eat with you with a long spoon.

“I felt that after serving as President of this country, I should go to some other areas where my services would be required. Through that process, I would be able to support the nation and the state in one way or the other.”

Reacting to Jonathan's statement, Shehu Sani recalled how some former presidents of Nigeria made similar statements only to make be found involved in partisan politics again.

He tweeted: "IBB once said he quit politics & later returned to quit again. Obj once said he quit politics & later returned to back a candidate & quit again.PMB once said he quit & won't contest again & later returned. Atiku once said he has reached his last bus stop only to board a train.GEJ....?".
