OPay threatens lawsuit after Adamu Garba warned customers to dump platform

OPay has reacted to a claim by politician Adamu Garba that the company will go on a long, indefinite break, and he further advised customers to remove funds from their accounts with the company.

The company said it further observed that, in bad faith and with intent to cause further commercial and reputational harm, Garba proceeded to promote and recommend an alternative wallet called Crowwe Wallet to members of the public alongside the false, malicious, unlawful, libellous, and defamatory publication.

OPay described his conduct as malicious, deliberate, and calculated to damage their company's goodwill, reputation, and commercial interests.

"Your publication and/or amplification of the false statement, coupled with the simultaneous recommendation of an alternative wallet alongside the false publication, constitutes an infringement to our company's right and have coused reputational and commercial damage to our brand and business operations

"You are hereby required to permanently delete and desist from disseminating or further publicising the said publication from your X account or any other platform before 11:59 PM WAT today, issue a clear and unequivocal retraction of the said publication, and forthwith, tender on unreserved apology to us

"TAKE NOTICE that your action has caused irreparable damage to us and we shall take all appropriate legal action against you and shall pursue all remedies available to us," the company said in a statement.
