Naira strengthens again against dollar as FX reserves hit $46bn

The naira recorded its third consecutive appreciation against the United States dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Wednesday.

Data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the naira strengthened to N1,400.48 per dollar on Wednesday, up from N1,401.22 recorded the previous day.

This indicates that the Nigerian currency gained N0.74 against the dollar on a day-to-day basis at the official market.

Similarly, the naira also appreciated at the parallel (black) market, strengthening by N5 to trade at N1,485 per dollar on Wednesday, compared to N1,490 on Tuesday.

The naira’s gain across both the official and parallel markets comes as Nigeria’s foreign reserves rose to $46.04 billion as of January 26, 2026, according to data from the apex bank.

Recall that on Tuesday, the naira recorded its highest single-day gain against the dollar in several months.
