NCDC speaks on spending N1 billion on SMS to Nigerians

The Nigerian Center for Disease Control, NCDC, has denied a report that it spent N1billion on sending SMS to Nigerians over COVID-19.

The report had claimed that the agency spent the money to educate Nigerians on the deadly virus which now has 276 confirmed cases in the country with 44 people discharged and six deaths recorded.

Reacting to the report, NCDC stated that the SMS which was sent to Nigerians was facilitated by three telecommunications network providers.

The agency tweeted: "The headline claiming that NCDC has spent N1 billion on SMS to Nigerians is FALSE

"While communication through SMS is a key part of our #COVID19 response strategy, this has been largely provided as in-kind support by".

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has denied reports making the rounds on social media that members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 get paid a daily sitting allowance of N500,000.
