Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, Tolu Ogunlesi, has asked contractors to turn in their bids to supply the Enugu Airport quarry dust.

This announcement is coming due to the dire need of a product which contractors desire about 1,500 tonnes of, as they have reportedly gone out of Enugu State in search of it.

Throwing the floor open, Ogunlesi tweeted:

"So therefore, I’m guessing that if you’re a supplier of / in possession of quarry dust, in the South East, or very close, the Enugu Airport Runway contractors might be needing your supplies. Make of this what you will. I don’t have any other information, I’m afraid."

Explaining why the quarry dust is being utilised instead of sand, he noted that quarry dust was being reinforced with glass mesh to make the runaway the best in the country.

"The Minister explained that Quarry dust is being used instead of sand, in the Enugu runway reconstruction. The quarry dust is also being reinforced with glass mesh (which was also used for the Abuja Runway) — to make the new Enugu Runway the best in the country when finished," he said.

The Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State has been a source of controversy in recent times.

The Federal Government shut down the airport on August 24, 2019, until further notice.

The move affected both Ethiopia Airlines and Air Peace.

In the final quarter of 2019, Sirika tabled a request of N10 billion before President Muhammadu Buhari for the repairs of the airport. The money got approved and he promised that the airport would be delivered before Christmas.

The Airport is now set to be fully operational in April 2020, MyNigeria repoirted.
