Lagos to receive six train sets from China

Lagos State will soon receive six train sets to strengthen the capacity of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines.

This was disclosed on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, who said the addition will deliver value to commuters and increase the economic viability of the state.

According to Gawat, the six train sets, which have scaled the factory acceptance test hurdle, are scheduled for shipment to Lagos from China.

"The addition of the train sets to the Blue Line rolling stock will increase the number of train trips along the corridor and will be deployed for passenger operation to Okokomaiko when phase two of the Blue Line is completed.

It is projected that the construction of phase two from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, about 14 kilometres in length, will be completed within the first quarter of 2027 and passenger operations extended to Okokomaiko shortly after," he said.

This is coming months after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Finance Incorporated and China Harbour Engineering Company for a Green Line Metro

The Green Line is a 68km rail line designed to run from the Lekki Free Zone to Marina, connecting with the Blue Line at Marina.
