Lagos State Government paid 644 retirees N2.02bn retirement benefits in August.

This was disclosed during the 101st retirement bond certificate presentation ceremony in Lagos on Wednesday, which was well attended by retirees of the state.

Speaking at the event, the Director-General, Lagos State Pension Commission, Mr Babalola Obilana, said, the retirement bond certificates symbolised more than just financial rewards, but represented the trust and confidence Lagos had in its retirees.

“Today, the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will present another set of 644 retirees with a sum of N2.02bn only, being their past service benefits prior to the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme in 2007,” he said.

He said the certificates were testaments to the lasting impact they had made.

“Your dedication has been the bedrock of the ‘goal of a greater Lagos’, and your hard work has set a high standard for those who will carry the state forward,” he said.

The director-general applauded the retirees for their exceptional contributions and dedication.

He also thanked Sanwo-Olu for ensuring the consistent payment of pension liabilities to its retirees.

According to him, Sanwo-Olu had shown great commitment to the ideals of the CPS, and prioritised the welfare of the public service workforce even in retirement.

“This retirement bond certificate presentation ceremony is not just a formality; it is a moment to reflect upon the remarkable contributions you all have made,” the director-general said.
