The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing has decided to recover the Federal roads Right-of-Way which has impeded the development, management, and maintenance of Federal roads.

According to a public notice circulated by the Federal Ministry and signed by the permanent secretary, Mohammed Bukar, the Ministry of Works and Housing advised all owners of any structure within the Right-of-Way of Federal roads to remove such structures within thirty (30) days with effect from Thursday, March 12, 2020.

The Ministry described any structure within the Right-of-Way as illegal and unauthorised. Besides, the Ministry argued that some of the structures constructed within the Right-of-Way, deface the environment and create public health challenges.

To arrest this unacceptable and hazardous situation, it decided to recover the Federal roads Right-of-Way and deter further encroachment with a month's notice in advance to the general public.

The Ministry promised to demolish structures that fail to comply with this directive.

"Failure to comply with this notification will result in the demolition of the structures and recovering the cost from owners of the affected structures," the statement read in part.
