Egypt Air, the flag carrier of Egypt on Tuesday said it would suspend its flights to Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, for days amid security concerns, Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation said.

“Due to the current conditions and the unstable security situation in Baghdad, Egypt Air decided to suspend all its flights to the city.

“The decision will be enforced starting from Jan. 8 to Jan. 10, to maintain the safety of the passengers and the airplanes until the security condition in the city improves,” the ministry said.

It added that it was in close coordination with the concerned bodies for evaluating the conditions in Iraq before taking decision on resuming the flights.

The ministry, however, called on the clients to adjust their reservations.

On Friday, the U.S. killed Iran’s Gen. Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, in an airstrike near Baghdad International Airport, escalating political tensions in the region.
