DisCos collect N603.64bn in Q2 2026 as electricity losses hit 36% – NERC

Nigeria’s electricity distribution companies, DisCos, collected a total of ₦603.64 billion in revenue in the second quarter of 2026.

This comes as the average Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection, ATC&C, losses recorded by DisCos stood at 36 per cent in Q2 2026, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC.

The figures were contained in NERC’s Q2 2026 operational and commercial performance report, released on Wednesday, which reviewed key developments across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry, NESI.

The report showed that DisCos billed customers N744.67 billion for electricity supplied during the quarter, representing a billing efficiency of 79 per cent. However, the companies collected N603.64 billion, translating to a collection efficiency of 81 per cent.

Despite the revenue collected, the average actual ATC&C loss across the distribution companies stood at 36 per cent, significantly above the average allowed target of 16.92 per cent.

DAILY POST reports that ATC&C losses measure the combined impact of technical losses, commercial losses and revenue collection inefficiencies in the electricity distribution system.

Meanwhile, DisCos achieved an overall market remittance rate of 94 per cent during the quarter, settling N385.44 billion of invoices issued by the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc, NBET, and the Market Operator, MO.

On metering, the report showed that the distribution companies metered an additional 350,270 customers during the three-month period, bringing the national metering rate to 62 per cent.

The report also disclosed that grid-connected power plants achieved a plant load factor of 90 per cent, generating an average hourly output of 4,022.40 megawatt-hours, MWh.

On regulatory oversight, NERC issued 64 regulatory instruments during the quarter in the exercise of its powers under the Electricity Act 2023.
