The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria has urged legal practitioners to be updated with taxation regulations in the country.

The President, CITN, Adesina Adedayo, said this at the opening ceremony of the four-day conversion programme for legal practitioners organised by the CITN in Lagos on Tuesday.

He said, “Undoubtedly, for any individual to be considered a professional, such a person must be certified and well acquainted with the intricacies and principles of that profession.

“It is for this reason that the council of the CITN has prescribed this training programme as a prerequisite for admitting legal practitioners into the membership of the institute.”

He said by the end of the four-days training programme, the participants would become eligible to join the growing list of professionals on the roll call of the CITN.

The Assistant Director, CITN Tax Academy, Mrs Yetunde Suleiman, said the mission of the Academy is to raise the competence of tax professionals in Nigeria through up-to-date tax education and that is why this training has been put together.

“The legal practitioners’ conversion programme holding here today is the maiden edition in the institute, and I am happy to inform you that through the academy platform, over 200 professionals have transitioned into seasoned tax professionals as members of the institute,” she said.

According to her, the event signaled the beginning of a new journey and their transition into becoming certified tax professionals of the institute.

She said, “At the end of this training, you will be officially recognised as having met all requirements to be recognised as potential tax professionals.

“Your certification did not come on a platter of gold, it is coming as a result of your sheer willingness, passion and dedication to be the best in your chosen career.”
