Former Nigerian striker, Jonathan Akpoborie has applauded the decision of Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr to invite Simy Nwankwo and Terem Moffi for the chance to prove their worth in the senior national team.

On Monday, May 25, Rohr released his final 24-man list that will face the Indomitable Lons of Cameroon on June 4 in an international friendly game in Austria.

The game is meant to prepare the Eagles for the rescheduled World Cup qualifiers in September.

Simy last played for the Super Eagles in 2018 with Rohr not finding a spot for the 28 years old in his team with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Paul Onuachu, and Kelechi Iheanacho ahead of him, soccernet.ng reports.

On the other hand, after a superb season in Ligue 1 with Lorient, where he scored 14 goals and made three assists, Moffi will be aiming to take his chance if selected to face Cameroon.

Reacting to this, the former Wolfsburg striker told Soccernet.ng that he’s delighted with the inclusion of Simy and Moffi in the final 24-man squad.

He stated that the two strikers have plenty to offer the Super Eagles and will give Iheanacho and Osimhen a run for their money.

“I feel delighted to know that Simy and Moffi will eventually get the chance to prove their worth with the Super Eagles after been included in the final 24-man list,” Akpoborie said.

“Going by their impressive performances in Europe for their respective clubs, I sincerely believe that they will give the likes of Osimhen and Iheanacho serious competition in the attack for the Super Eagles,” he added.
