Real Madrid defeat Sociedad to go top of LaLiga table

Spanish giants Real Madrid have returned to the top of the LaLiga table after defeating Real Sociedad 2-1 at the Anoeta Stadium on Sunday night.

Sergio Ramos put the away team ahead in the 50th minute through a penalty kick after Vinicius Junior was brought down by an opponent defender in the 18-yard-box.

French striker, Karim Benzema doubled the lead for Zinadine Zidane's men after Adnan Januzaj's equalizer was ruled out for an off-side due to an obstruction to Thibaut Courtois by a Sociedad player.

The home side gave Madrid a scare after pulling one back in the 83rd minute through Mikel Merino but it wasn't enough to get a point from Madrid.

Real Madrid now sit on top of the LaLiga standings having levelled Barcelona on points with 65 apiece.

Zidane's men take the lead via the head to head rule after beating Barcelona 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu in March after a goalless draw at the Camp Nou in December.
