Paul Onuachu becomes 5th Nigerian to win Ebony Shoe award in Belgium

- This comes following his incredible performances for Belgian giants Genk scoring 33 League goals

- Paul Onuachu is now the fifth Nigerian to win the award as the likes of Amokachi, Babayaro has won it

Paul Onuachu who is a Super Eagles striker has been named as the best African player in the Belgian League for the just-concluded season and has been given the Ebony Shoe award.

The 27-year-old was superb for his club Genk last season scoring incredible goals in the League as he beat off competition from Club Brugge's Clinton Mata (Angola) and Genk's Theo Bongonda (DR Congo) to win the prestigious prize.

Last season, Paul Onuachu netted 33 League goals for Genk and helped his side to finish as second-best team on the final standings behind Club Brugge.

Paul Onuachu's incredible performances also saw him win the 2020-21 Belgian League Player of the Year and winner of the Golden Boot award.

He is now the fifth Nigerian to claim the prize after Daniel Amokachi (1992 and 1994), Victor Ikpeba (1993), Godwin Okpara (1995), and Celestine Babayaro (1996).

European clubs interested in the signing of Paul Onuachu this summer even though he has two years left on his contract at Genk.

Paul Onuachu started his football career at Nigerian side FC Ebedei before getting the chance to move to Danish club FC Midtjylland in 2012.

Since joining Genk in 2019, Paul Onuachu has played 60 games for the Belgian side netting 42 goals so far.
