Napoli has secured the services of Luciano Spalletti to replace the sacked Gennaro Gattuso.

Gattuso was fired after 18 months for his failure to qualify Napoli for the Champions League.

Napoli had looked good value for a place in the top four heading into the final day of the season, but their draw at home to Hellas Verona saw Juventus leapfrog them into fourth spot, condemning Napoli to the Europa League, complete sports said.

With Gattuso handed his marching orders the club have been on the hunt for a new boss and it hasn’t taken them long to appoint his successor, with former Inter boss Spalletti announced as the new man at the helm.

The club took to their official Twitter account to confirm the news, offering the simple caption: “Welcome to our new coach, Luciano Spalletti!”

Former Inter boss Spalletti has been out of management since leaving the Nerazzurri back in 2019. The Italian tactician is one of the most seasoned bosses in Italian football having spent the majority of his managerial career in his home country, though his impressive list of former clubs isn’t matched by his trophy cabinet, reports complete sports.

Two Coppa Italia triumphs and a Supercoppa Italiana win during his time with Roma is the best he’s managed in terms of major silverware, though he’ll be hoping to add to his winners’ medal collection at Napoli.

The appointment is just the latest in a long line of Serie A managerial changes with some huge clubs including Inter, Juventus and Roma all announcing new bosses in the last couple of weeks.

Gattuso himself has already bagged himself a new role having been named as the new Fiorentina boss after Giuseppe Iachini left the club just months after being re-appointed.
