Striker Obafemi Martins has rejoined Shanghai Shenhua for the forthcoming Chinese Super League season.

The former Inter Milan, Newcastle, Levante, Wolfsburg, Rubin Kazan and Seattle Sounders forward was handed the No.17 by the CSL giants.

The details of his deal were not revealed by the club, but the player was reportedly handed a one-year deal, with an option to renew the deal for another one year.

According to Transfermarkt.com, the 35-year-old signed for a fee in the region of €400,000.

Martins, who will be 36 in October, has been without a club for two years due to injury, last played a competitive game in April 2018 for Shanghai Shenhua, for whom he scored 32 goals in 59 matches during his previous spell.

The former Super Eagles striker on Wednesday posted a video of himself on Instagram with his Shenhua teammates, saying “Shanghai, I’m here.”

He replaces compatriot Odion Ighalo, who is currently on loan at Manchester United.

Shenhua will face reigning CSL champions Guangzhou Evergrande in their first league game of the season.
