Barcelona top the chart ahead of Real Madrid with two points Barcelona top the chart ahead of Real Madrid with two points

The Spanish LaLiga has been given the go-ahead to resume the suspended 2019/20 football season on the 8th of June from Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

Recall that Spain's top-tier football league was suspended in March due to the effects of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic that has so far affected 281,904 people, killing at least 28,628.

The PM's permission was based on guidelines submitted by the Spanish Ministry of Health according to Sky Sports.

MyNigeria.com reported that clubs in the league returned to training earlier this month with the league reportedly to restart with the Sevilla vs Real Betis game.

The Sun reports that LaLiga clubs having stepped up their training this week - now allowed to do so in groups of up to ten.

All 20 teams have 11 games remaining, with Barcelona leading Real Madrid by two points at the top of the table.

Speaking earlier this month, La Liga president Javier Tebas reiterated his desire to stage matches every day once play resumed.

"That's what I hope," Tebas said. "We shouldn't have any problems playing on Mondays across the 11 rounds of matches we have left to play.

"I hope for some sense from the Spanish Football Federation on this because it's very important for us to be able to give both our national and international broadcasters, and fans across the world, football on as many days as possible to ensure as little disruption as possible."
