Abia Warriors defender Adeleke Adekunle says he’s glad to earn his first invitation to the Super Eagles. Adeleke, who is one of the best defenders in the NPFL this season, was handed a late up by Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr for the AFCON 2021 qualifiers.

The youngster came in as replacement for CD Leganes defender Kenneth Omeruo who was excused from the squad after his club refused to allow him travel.

Adeleke is the third home based players in the squad alongside Enyimba duo of Anayo Iwuala and John Noble.

The three players arrived the camp on Monday after their playing for their respective club in the league.

In a chat with brila.net, Adeleke said getting the call to the Super Eagles is a dream come true and he will continue to cherish the moment.

“I’m happy to here, I wasn’t not expecting the invitation, but I thank God for making it possible.

“It’s a dream come true for me and my family and I just want to keep working hard on the field,” he told brila.net.

Adeleke and the rest of the squad will begin official training for the game on Tuesday.

Nigeria will take on Benin Republic in Port Novo on Saturday, before returning home for the final qualifying game with Lesotho.
