Iheanacho shouldn't be in the mix for POTY award - Ex-Leicester City star

Former Leicester City striker Brian Deane opined that Kelechi Iheanacho hasn’t done enough to be in the mix for the player of the year award, given his poor form in the first half of the campaign.

Dean made this statement while speaking on the resurgence of the Nigerian striker with Transfer Tavern after Adrian Durham suggested on talkSPORT that the 24-year-old should be in contention for the award.

After a slow start to the season, Iheanacho has scored 14 goals in all competitions for the Foxes this season, including the winner in the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton.

The incredible form also earned former Manchester City forward a deal bumper deal at the club and also won him the Premier League Player of the month award for the month of March.

Deane said he’s impressed with Iheanacho’s turnaround but does not expect him to be in the conversation for the Player of the Season award.

“Look, every time I see him now, it’s like a different player. You know, some of the goals he’s scoring are just ridiculous.

“He’s put [Jamie] Vardy in, he’s put other people in and he’s playing like a Rolls-Royce at the moment. But, no, I don’t think it would be fair to say he’s a Player of the Year [contender].

“Given Iheanacho made very little impact during the first half of the campaign, often forced to settle for a role on the bench, you can understand why some may feel Player of the Season talk is a bit of a stretch.” He said.
