Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he hopes Odion Ighalo waits to "finish off what he started" at Old Trafford.

Ighalo joined United on a deadline days January transfer from Shanghai Shenhua and his loan deal is expected to expire on Sunday, May 31.

Although the Red Devils are yet to make an offer to Shenhua for Ighalo, Solskjaer is hopeful the club can extend his loan spell as United remain in talks to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

"The loan deal went until the end of May now, so obviously he's supposed to be going back," Solskjaer told MUTV.

"We're in dialogue. They've been great towards us, his club, and allowed him to play for his dream club.

"It's been a dream for him and hopefully he can finish off what he started, hopefully with a trophy for us. At the moment, nothing has been agreed. Their league is going to get started soon so we're just waiting to see."

According to Sky SPort's Kaveh Solhekol, "As things stand, on loan Man United striker Odion Ighalo cannot go back to Shanghai Shenhua. China’s borders are closed. On 28 March China suspended entry into the country of foreign nationals. About a third of foreign players in Chinese Super League locked out."

Foreign nationals have been banned from entering China since the 28th of March, however, Shenhua expect Ighalo to have returned in time for the resumption of the Chinese Super League season, expected to be at the end of June or beginning of July.

But, as things stand, Ighalo cannot go back because China's borders are closed.

According to Sky Sports, a third of foreign players in the Chinese Super League locked out.

Chinese media reported on Tuesday that the ban on foreign entry may stay in place until October.
