The three-time African champions were disappointing in their doubleheader clash against their arch-rivals

Former Nigerian forward Jonathan Akpoborie says it is too early to start judging Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr following the two matches he played against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

The Super Eagles lost 1-0 to Cameroon last week Friday before playing a goalless draw in the reverse fixture on Tuesday.

The German tactician, who recently qualified the Super Eagles to next year’s Africa Cup of Nations with an unbeaten record, has come under criticism following the two games.

Some football-loving Nigerians and analysts have questioned the ability of Rohr to take the team to a greater height, but the former Wolfsburg striker in a chat with Soccernet.ng that it would be wrong to judge him based on the two results.

He insists that the purpose of the friendly games has been achieved but said the Mexico game would also help the team improve better.

“It will be too early for Nigerians to start criticising Rohr because of his failure to beat the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in the two games played in Austria,” Akpoborie told Soccernet.

“As you know, friendly matches are basically meant to create some level of understanding amongst the players even though the purpose is also to win.”

“However, I don’t think it will be ideal to judge Rohr because of the two results,” he concluded.

Next up for Rohr and Nigeria is a friendly clash against Mexico at the Los Angeles Coliseum on July 4.
