Hosts of the 2020 National Sports Festival, Edo State will start vaccinating its athletes and officials today in line with the laid down rules for the Games.

The oft-postponed National Sports Festival will now begin on April 2 and according to the Main Organising Committee (MOC), all the participating athletes and officials must be vaccinated at least 12 days before they enter the Games Village.

Team Edo’s Project Manager, Anehita Emeya, said in Benin City yesterday that hosts are ready for the games, adding they poised to make the state proud.
Emeya said the organisers of the competition decided that all athletes/officials from the 35 states and the FCT, participating in the National Sports Festival must take COVID-19 tests 72 hours before arrival for the tournament, with the contingents presenting certificates and documentation of the tests and vaccination before they can be admitted into the Games Villages.

The Project Manager revealed the state’s plans to vaccinate about 1,500 persons, including athletes, coaches, vendors and drivers.

On the team’s preparedness ahead of the national competition, Emeya boasted, “Edo is to host and win the games.”
