Nigerian legendary footballer, Finidi George celebrates his 50th birthday today.

He has worked really hard as a right-winger to make Nigerian football recognized across the continent and many parts of the world. He appeared in two world cups for the nation.

He also played for the Ajax football team in the Netherlands, where they won eight major titles, including the 1995 Champions League.

In celebration of this star, MyNigeria puts together a list of facts you do not know about the football legend.

1. His name Finidi means "future full of the sun". This explains why he was so successful as a footballer even after retirement.

2. He joined the Ajax team after he was scouted during a Super Eagles training camp in Holland. He worked so hard to become a key member of the famous 1995 Louis Van Gaal treble-winning team.

3. He officially joined the Super Eagles in 1991 with a goal in a 7-1 win over Burkina Faso.

4. He appeared in four African cup of nations for Nigeria, winning gold in Tunisia in 1994, and 2 World Cups in USA 94 and France 98.

5. He won the Nigerian league title with Iwuanyanwu Nationale in 1990.

6. He was nicknamed “The Gazelle” during his playing days at Ajax.
