Super Eagles and Everton FC attacker Alex Iwobi has cleared the air regarding his recent cryptic social media post following his call-up to the Super Eagles of Nigeria for the Benin and Lesotho games.

Following the announcement of the full squad list, Iwobi took to social media to post a message which read: “Always an honour to get a call up to my National Team. Hopefully, I get to play in my preferred position.”

Although it is unclear who this message is directed at it was reported that Everton boss, Carlo Ancelotti requested to speak to him concerning this issue having deployed him in a number of positions this season including at right wing-back.

“I read the post. I want to speak to him, of course. I want to know his preferred position because usually, I want to put a player on the pitch where they are comfortable to play, not where they are uncomfortable to play,” Ancelotti said according to the Guardian.

Speaking to ACLSports to clarify his preferred position the Super Eagles midfielder said: “Anywhere I’m told to play I’ll pay but growing up as a child I’ve always played in midfield, but even if I’m told to play right wing-back here, I’ll play, as long as I’m playing football I don’t mind.”

The Super Eagles travel to the Benin Republic by boat for the first of the two games this international window. Asked if he is comfortable with the arrangement.

“Anyway we have to travel, we have to travel. I’m grateful to even get the opportunity to play here so if we have to travel by boat or walk to get to the game I don’t mind,” Iwobi said with a smile.

“We are ready to compete and we are excited especially playing in Lagos to have a few of the fans with us. Hopefully, we can qualify because that’s the aim and we are feeling confident that we can do so,” he added.
