Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has heaped praises on Bruno Fernandes' character after the Portuguese appeared to have shushed the City boss during the 2-0 derby win at Old Trafford.

Fernandes assisted United's opener and was pivotal to the win as the Red Devils secured their first league double over the Citizens in a decade.

In the closing stages of the derby, City’s boss threw the ball away as the 25-year-old went to collect it from him in what appeared to be an attempt to get under the player’s skin. It didn’t work and Fernandes can seemingly do no wrong in the eyes of the Old Trafford faithful. [Talk Sport]

“You need character at this club but this team they have got that,” his manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, said when asked about Fernandes’ gesture.

“They have learnt through some hard times this season. We have started something we believe in and Bruno has helped that.”

United even tweeted a picture of the player with the caption ‘This man is a genius’.

Ole's men are now unbeaten in their last 10 games in all competitions and three points off fourth-placed Chelsea as they keep their top 4 hopes alive as well as a shot at the FA Cup trophy as they face Norwich in the quarter-final.

“I’ve just looked at the process we have to go through to bring Man United further up the table in my eyes,” Solskjaer told talkSPORT afterwards.

“I’m just making decisions with the club that I think are right. The connection between the fans and players, it’s there.

“They can see what type of player I want at the club – they’re hard-working, they’re skilful, there’s pace and they’re fantastic lads.

“They’re great human beings, you should have seen them yesterday with the Under-12s, there was a memorial festival at Carrington [the club’s training ground] and the boys are just absolutely top class.

“It’s a privilege to manage them.”

City trail Premier League leaders Liverpool by 25 points and two more wins for Jurgen Klopp’s side will seal a first top-flight title in 30 years for the club.

Pep's men are on course for a double trophy after their Carabao Cup victory, should they win the Champions League, a task that begins with completely eliminating Real Madrid as they head for the round of 16 return leg following a 2-1 away win at the Bernabéu.
