Following their failure to qualify for the Olympics and World Cup, D’Tigers return to the court to pick a ticket to the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket.

The 2015 AfroBasket champions will be facing Cape Verde and Uganda as the race to the Africa’s premier men’s basketball championship are set for February and November next year.

The teams have been divided into five groups of four teams, with South Sudan, who will compete in the Olympics, leading Group A, which also includes Mali and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

Group B includes Mauritius and Comoros, the winners of the Zone 6 pre-qualifiers.

Cape Verde, who placed fourth in the most recent AfroBasket, which took place in Rwanda in 2021, is ranked first in Group B, which also includes Nigeria, Uganda, and the victor of the Zones 1 and 2 pre-qualifiers.

Group C’s opponents for the 2021 bronze medalists, Senegal, are Cameroon, who placed last in the previous competition; Rwanda and the victor of the Zones 3 and 4 pre-qualification tournament round out the field.

The dominant teams of Zone 5, Egypt, Central Africa Republic, and the winner of the pre-qualifier between Zone 5, Madagascar, and Djibouti comprise Group D, which is rounded out by reigning silver medallists Cote D’Ivoire.

In Group E, defending champion Tunisia will face Angola, which placed sixth in 2021, Guinea, and Kenya.

Groups D, B, and E will play in the February 2024 window, while Groups C and A will play in the November 2024 window.
