China begins construction on World's Largest Stadium amidst global pandemic

Guanzhou Guanzhou "Evergrande" stadium

China has begun to construct the largest stadium in the world despite serving the world a virus that people are yet to recover from.

The stadium is financed by Guangzhou Evergrande, the largest real estate company in China and supported by the Chinese Football Association.

The $1.7 billion lotus-shaped ‘Flower City,’ stadium is set to be the largest football arena in the world with 100,000 seats, 16 VVIP private suits, 152 VIP suites, FIFA area and more.

The essence of this stadium construction is to serve as the turf of the 2023 Asian Cup. This is fuelling optimism that despite the coronavirus, people will gather again.

The stadium is scheduled for completion in 2022.
