Arsenal legend, Thiery Henry, dares De Bruyne to beat his PL goal record

Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry, has dared Manchester City playmaker, Kevin de Bruyne, to break his goals scoring record of 24 goals in a season.

Henry's comment came as he jokingly responded to the Manchester City midfielder who targets the former Arsenal striker's Premier League assists record 20 in a season.

With 16 assists so far, KVD requires four more to match Henry's record of 20 but will need to score 16 more goals to pass the ex-Barcelona striker's challenge.

The ex-Chelsea star had last week revealed that he had joked with the Gunners' legend - who coached De Bruyne as Belgium assistant manager between 2016 and 2018 - about the mark earlier in the season.

"I always joked with Henry in the national team, even at Vincent Kompany’s testimonial this year. I saw him and said 'I’m coming for you this year'," he told the Athletic.

Now, Henry has responded to De Bruyne, saying he should try to score 24 goals in the same season - just as he did at Arsenal when setting the record.

Speaking to PUMA in a chat with Sergio Aguero, Henry said: "When you see Kevin… because the other day he told me that he’s willing and trying to provide more than 20 assists, he has 16 already, right?

"Yeah that’s right, 16, and the record in a season is 20. And I hold the record. So he said the other day that he wants to beat it. But I told him that with those 20 assists, you will have to score 24 goals as well! Not only assists!"

Aguero defended his teammate by saying that "It’s complicated to do both, goals and assists. In the end, assists create goals.

"Maybe in order to really get noticed you have to provide 30, 35 assists to compensate the goals. Kevin has goals too, though!"

"What I’ve seen from Kevin is just incredible," Aguero said.

"From nowhere he gives you a pass that you weren’t even expecting. I don’t know if you had the same players reaction with some players, perhaps at Barcelona? You’re just like, 'Oh, I have the ball!'"
