VIDEO: African leaders are not smart enough - Fela

Fela Fela

Afrobeats legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, years ago revealed that African leaders are to be blamed for the deterioration in culture because they are not smart enough.

He revealed this during an interview with a French journalist, a throwback video which was posted today by his son, Seun Kuti, on his Instagram page.

IN the video, Fela disclosed that the African condition is not conducive for the development of music as a result of corruption and lack of knowledge about the society's core.

He said:

"The conditions in Nigeria for music is terrible, as a matter of fact in Africa, it's terrible because the governments are so corrupt.

"They're not culture conscious and they do not know that culture is the basis of society.

"When leaders of countries are not smart enough, when they're in positions they ought not to be, we have this kind of problem. Music is not given the right projection.

"I would not stay in Paris or Europe because I get my inspirations mostly from staying at home(Africa)," a decision which reflects positively in his music.

Unlike African leaders who spend their spare time and resources investing abroad rather than at home to allow for the development of the continent and the rich African culture.
