Poverty led me into comedy - Broda Shaggi

Popular Nigerian comedian and actor, Samuel Animashaun Perry popularly known as Broda Shaggi has narrated how he got into the act of comedy.

According to Broda Shaggi poverty pushed him into entertainment, he said during the screening of 'Ponzi' an upcoming movie in Lagos.

After the death of his father, Shaggi left his hometown in Ikenne, Ogun state and relocated to Lagos where he lived with his aunt in Makoko area.

"I came from Ikenne in Ogun state. I left Ikene when my father died for Lagos where I lived with my aunt in Makoko area. She was the one who took care of me till l left the university. So, I was neither born with a silver spoon nor grew up in Lekki. Everything started in Makoko."

Broda Shaggi who started out making comedy skits on Instagram revealed hunger motivated him to go into comedy.

He said himself and most people began comedy out of hunger.

“I started entertainment out of hunger. When poverty hits you, you’ll be one to figure out your talent."

After gaining prominence from his Instagram skits, Shaggi said, “It was fun. For me, it was like leaving one world for another. There’s this joy when people see you and want to have pictures with you."
