The National Basketball Association has addressed an open letter to its fans following its temporal suspension of the season for 30 days.

Explaining why it had to tow that route, it said the move was important to safeguard the health and well-being of the fans, players, and the general public.

The association added that the season's suspension was only temporal and should not go beyond 30 days ideally.

Nonetheless, the United States Basketball Association said they will liaise with health officials to determine when it will be free to resume the season after ascertaining everything is safe.

It also added that tickets already purchased will be honoured and not ignored at the resumption of the season.

"We will continue to coordinate with infectious disease and public health experts along with government officials to determine safe procotols for resuming our games. As we develop the appropriate course for future NBA games and events, we will keep you informed of any changes as soon as they happen. Tickets already purchased for a postponed game will be honored when the game is rescheduled. If games are not played or played in an empty arena. teams will work with fans on a credit for a future game or a refund," the statement read in part.
