Sudanese citizens have cried out against the rise in insecurity in the country as a result of attacks from militia groups.

Thousands of protesters in Sudan have been staging a sit-in outside the administrative headquarters in the town of Nertiti, central Darfur, for more than a week, according to Al Jazeera.

They accuse the government of failing to protect them from militia attacks. Sudan's police chief and his deputy were sacked on the weekend.

As a result, the people are demanding that the government dismisses the administrative head of the area (Darfur).

Al Jazeera also reports that the protesters also called for the sacking of the head of police, military as well as the head of para-military rapid support forces.

The protesters claim that the officials have been mum over the issue while they suffer a series of looting and attacks as well as rape.

The people hope that the government will heed to their demands and stop the violence.
