One dies, 11 injured as grenade explodes in barbershop

A grenade explosion in a barber's shop has left at least one person dead and 11 others injured in Rwanda's capital, Kigali.

The Rwandan police, according to the BBC, are investigating the on Thursday in the country's capital.

Of the 11 injured, the police said that two children aged eight and 12 were among, according to the force's statement.

The deceased, a 25-year-old man identified as Tunezerwe Jean Paul, according to the police, had tried to show the barber, Niyikiza Pacific, something he was carrying in his pocket before the explosion.

"Inside his pocket was a smoke-emitting grenade. On seeing the grenade Nyikiza immediately told Tunezerwe to get out of the salon and in the process, the grenade detonated," the police statement said.

They ruled out terrorism as a motive.
