A Ugandan clergyman who was allegedly kidnapped on Sunday, Rev Isaac Solomon Mwesigwa, has been freed by his captors exactly three days after abducting him.

Rev Mwesigwa who is attached to Kasaka-Gomba, Central Buganda Diocese and a student at Uganda Christian University, was kidnapped on Sunday at about 9pm in Mukono and his car taken, Daily Monitor reported.

The victim, Rev Mwesigwa, was recovered by the police after the abductors reportedly abandoned him at St Peter's Cathedral in Soroti town at about 4 am on Wednesday, Kampala Metropolitan police deputy spokesman, Mr Luke Oweyesigire revealed.

Rev Mweigwa had reportedly informed his uncle, Mr Stanley Sempiira of suspicious movements before his kidnap.

Speaking to NTV on Tuesday Mr. Sempiira said:

“He told me some gun-wielding men had stopped him and were not in army or police uniform. Before I could tell him to knock them down, I heard him telling them that he was willing to open for them and they should not smash his car,” Mr Sempiira said.

He was later received by the Church of Uganda Archbishop Stanley Ntagali, who was in the area for pastoral activity.
