South African school catches fire South African school catches fire

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) has revealed that Protea South Primary School in Soweto caught fire.

According to the EMS spokesperson, Nana Radebe, firefighters were called to the scene before an hour after the fire started. Reports revealed that the fire started in the school's storeroom.

According to the News24, Protea South is the second school to be gutted in the same of two days after the administration block of Khutlo-Tharo Secondary School in Sebokeng was torched, hours before reopening for the 2020 academic year.

The fire was contained by the firefighters but the cause of the fire has not yet been determined as investigation has started to discover the cause.

There was no report of any casualty.

Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi is expected to visit the school on Friday morning.
