Ugandan Imam marries "man" as wife

A Ugandan Imam, Sheikh Mohammed Mutumba has come under fire for marrying a "man" as his wife.

The Imam married his ‘wife’ Ms Swabullah Nabukeera from the Kyampisi Masjid Noor mosque in Kayunga District where he usually teaches the Quran. He failed to consummate the marriage for two weeks because the bride was in her menstruation periods.

Being patient, he let her get better.

Things went the other way when his alleged "wife" ran off with his valuables, stealing his television set and clothes. This misdemeanor was brought to the Imam's notice by an overzealous neighbour who claimed Nabukeera was thief, running with her husband's valaubales across the fence.

Officer were therefore dispatched to arrest Nabukeera. They discovered his actual identity at the Kayunga Police Station.

“It was when he was been searched by a female officer that the suspect had stacked clothes in the bra to hoodwink that they were breasts. On further search, we discovered that the suspect had male genitals,” the neighbour said.

During interrogations, Nabukeera revealed that his real name is Richard Tumushabe and that he duped Mutumba so as to get his money. He was charged with impersonation, theft and obtaining goods by false pretense.
