Kenya suffers locust invasion

Kenya is the next in line to suffer locust invasion after Somalia and Ethiopia recently met the same fate.

According to Kenya's Minister of Agriculture, Mwangi Kiunjuri, the locusts began their affliction since 28th December 2019.

“The first swarm (of locusts) crossed the border in to Kenya from Somalia on 28th December 2019. Other swarms (of locusts) continued coming in from Ethiopia, with additional ones from Somalia," he said.

The East African nation is on the brink of its worst invasion in 25 years as worry over food shortage has slowly begun.

Nevertheless, Government has been proactive to combat the insect invasion by spraying them and tracking the locusts with trained officers and helicopters.

Swarms formed in eastern Ethiopia and northern Somalia and have moved through the region, possibly still threatening South Sudan and Uganda, according to Africa news.
