UPDATED: Police, civilian injured as Bomb explodes near US embassy in Tunisia

At least, five policemen and a civilian reported sustained various types of injuries when two suicide bombers stormed a point near the US embassy in Tunisia.

Tunisia's ministry of interior confirmed that the explosion took place, adding that the suicide bombers were targeting a security patrol in the area.

According to the BBC, this is the third consecutive attack by suicide bombers in three years.

A similar attack was carried out in central Tunis in June last year and the year before that, where security patrols also appeared to be the target.

The US embassy in Tunis is a very tightly secured and sprawling compound in the financial district of Lac 2, where several other embassies are based.
