Families of bombed American sailors are set to get compensation form the Sundanese government after an agreement was signed to the effect on Thursday.

At least, 17 American sailors lost their lives when their ship, the USS Cole, was bombed at a port in Yemen in 2000.

Although the stipulated amount was not stated, the BBC believes that the move by the Sudanese government is in line with the key condition set by the US for Sudan to be removed from a terrorism blacklist.

Al-Qaeda said it had carried out the attack in which the warship was rammed by a rubber dinghy packed with explosives, the BBC reported.

The two suicide bombers were trained in Sudan- an allegation denied by Khartoum but the US held the African country responsible.
